Who am I?

I was raised in North Cowichan and have dedicated much of my life to serving our community. I am currently semi-retired, which gives me the time and energy to focus on making a difference. I live on a small hobby farm and care deeply about the future of our valley.

For 25 years, I worked as an elementary school secretary. During that time, I also served in various positions with my local union, advocating for the needs and rights of staff. My commitment to community service continued through my role as a school trustee for four years, where I concluded my term  serving as  vice-chair. The experience I gained as a trustee has prepared me well for the responsibilities of a council member.

Those of us who have lived here for a long time can see the changes our community is going through—it isn’t an easy time for our valley. I support the Official Community Plan (OCP) and the Safer Community Plan, as they share common goals of promoting sustainable growth for North Cowichan, including housing and support services for those in need.

Currently, I serve as the coordinator for the Cowichan Valley Community Action Team (CAT), where our team focuses on the  opioid crisis and supporting our community’s at-risk members. It is with open dialogue and collaborative efforts that we can find ways for our business community to thrive while also creating stability for those in crisis.

My strengths include being a team player, truly listening to others, and following through on my commitments. You can count on me to keep an open mind and to consider new possibilities and perspectives. By working together respectfully, we can make real progress.

I have a personal stake in our community’s future—My husband and I raised my children here, and now our grandchildren are growing up in this community. I’m excited about the opportunity to bring my experience and dedication to the role of Councillor and to continue working towards a thriving and cohesive North Cowichan.
